Girls Just Wanna Have Sun – A Greek Island Dream with My Soul Sisters

Four women in vibrant pink outfits pose together in front of an ancient Greek temple. The setting is lush and historic.

There are some trips that feed your soul, fuel your laughter, and fill your camera roll—and this one? Oh, honey. It delivered in spades. Our girls’ getaway to Greece was equal parts sunshine and sass, ancient ruins and alfresco dining, windblown gowns and windswept dreams. We went with open hearts, packed bags (carefully curated with the help of my trusty Style with Tia packing guide), and a firm intention: to soak up every golden hour, every grilled prawn, every historic stone path.

Greece gave us all that, and more.

Let me take you along on our sun-drenched adventures through Athens, Mykonos, Aegina—and the magical moments in between.

First night

We landed in the heart of Athens and made a beeline for our centrally located Airbnb—a stylish and spacious flat that put us within walking distance to all the good stuff. (Pro tip: if you're staying in central Athens, you really can walk almost everywhere. Comfy shoes are a must.)

After a quick glam-up, we headed out for dinner at A Little Taste of Home. And whew—what a way to start! The slow-cooked beef short ribs melted like butter and the prawns were a triumph. (Check out the menu if you're planning your foodie hit list.)

Day 1: Walking Through Time in Pink

The next day was our big Athens adventure. We’d bought a combination ticket via GetYourGuide that gave us access to the Acropolis and five other historic sites—perfect for a packed itinerary.

Every girls trip I plan comes with a signature colour for one of the days, and for this one, I chose pink—and let me tell you, we slayed. The pink tones popped perfectly against the soft, sand-coloured backdrops of Athens, making every photo look like a curated editorial moment.

Four women in colorful dresses pose in front of ancient stone pillars, with a bright blue sky and distant cityscape in the background.

We hit the Acropolis bright and early at 8:30am. Was it empty? Absolutely not. But by 11am it was swarming, so trust me—get there early. The walk up is not too strenuous, but flat shoes with grip are non-negotiable (the stones can be slippery!).

Four women in vibrant pink outfits stand on ancient stone steps, surrounded by tourists climbing a historic site under a cloudy sky.

The Acropolis isn’t just a must-see—it’s the soul of Athens, perched high above the city like a timeless crown. This ancient citadel is home to some of the most iconic ruins in the world, including the Parthenon, a temple dedicated to Athena (the city’s namesake goddess of wisdom and war). You’ll also find the Erechtheion, known for its porch held up by six elegant Caryatid statues, and the Temple of Athena Nike, a symbol of victory. Walking through the Acropolis feels like stepping into a history book—except with better lighting and outfit opportunities. It’s where myth meets marble, and every worn stone has a story. Don’t miss the Theatre of Dionysus on the southern slope, where ancient Athenians once watched tragedies and comedies unfold under the open sky.

Ancient stone amphitheater with tiered seating, overlooking a cityscape under a blue sky. Lush green hills in the background. Historic ambiance.

Just below the citadel lies the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, a Roman amphitheater still used for summer performances—talk about timeless acoustics. The panoramic views of Athens from the top? Breath-taking. You feel the power, beauty, and legacy of ancient Greece in every direction.

Next, we wandered to the Roman Agora and Ancient Agora—just a short walk away. Roman Agora was… fine. Honestly, it’s a little bare. But Ancient Agora? Loved it.

Three women in colorful dresses sit on grass in front of ancient ruins. Yellow buildings and a clear blue sky background the scene.

Tons more to see, a lovely museum, and the kind of historic energy you can actually feel.

We lunched just across from the Agora, sipping fresh orange juice and devouring grilled octopus with ruins as our backdrop. Casual, right?

Then came one of my favourite strolls of the trip: winding through the charming neighbourhoods of Plaka and Anafiotika.

Four women in colorful pink outfits and sunglasses pose on a sunny path with lush greenery and vibrant bougainvillea, under a blue sky.

Narrow cobbled streets, pastel houses, hidden staircases—it’s like wandering through a Greek fairy-tale. Streets like Tripodon and Lysiou are perfect for a wander.

We made a quick stop at the Temple of Olympian Zeus, but honestly? Skip it. There’s not much left, and most of it is under scaffolding.

Scaffolded Temple of Zeus ruins under a blue sky. White text: "Temple of Zeus." Columns and scaffolding visible, grassy foreground.

From there, we walked through the National Gardens (a lush, shady escape!) to reach the Panathenaic Stadium—the birthplace of the Olympic Games. This massive marble marvel is breath-taking and beautifully preserved. We even ran a lap around the track and guess who won? 😉

Our day ended in the quirky, artsy neighbourhood of Psirri known for its streets full of murals and graffiti art.

We stopped at Little Kook—a whimsically decorated dessert spot that changes themes seasonally (think Alice in Wonderland meets Willy Wonka). Later, we dined at Aesop's Fables where I had a shrimp dish that danced on my tastebuds. Highly recommend this beautiful restaurant for a chic evening out.

Getting Around Athens Like a Pro:

Athens’ metro system is super easy to navigate—clean, efficient, and well-connected to all major attractions. You can purchase multi-day travel cards (like the 3-day Tourist Ticket) which offer unlimited rides on buses, metro, and trams including to/from the airport. It’s a stress-free way to get around the city without constantly buying single tickets.

Pro tip for taxis: Download the FREENOW app (Greece’s top-rated taxi app). It’s cheaper than hailing a cab on the street, and most importantly—it helps you avoid getting scammed, which can happen to tourists (we learned that one the hard way!). Stick to the app and you’ll ride easy.

Day 2: Mykonos in a Day

We were up early for a 45-minute flight to the fairy-tale island of Mykonos—and wow, it was beyond worth it.

With its iconic whitewashed buildings, splashes of colourful doors, winding alleyways and shockingly blue waters, Mykonos looks exactly like every dream you’ve ever had about Greece. We all wore glam gowns in colours that contrasted beautifully with the all-white canvas of the town. Highly recommend dressing up a little here—every corner is a photo op.

We went in early May, just before peak season, so we were able to explore without the summer crowds. The wind, though? Relentless by the shore. Pack a shawl! But once you dive into the town’s narrow streets, it’s calm, sunny bliss.

We visited the famous windmills of Kato Mili—standing proud over the Aegean—and strolled through Little Venice, where buildings perch dramatically over the sea. Don’t miss Paraportiani Church, an architectural icon.

Women in colorful dresses stand by a white chapel with a blue dome in Mykonos. Greek flag waves; benches nearby under a clear blue sky.

For lunch, we sat beneath blooming bougainvillaea, sipping juice and eating fresh seafood while soaking in the sunshine. Perfection.

Souvenir shopping in Mykonos is a treat too—gorgeous handmade jewellery, embroidered linens, and beautiful ceramics. By evening, we headed back to the airport for our return to Athens.

Heads up: Taxis to/from Mykonos airport average €15–€25 depending on the time and luggage. But once you're in Chora (Mykonos Town), everything is walkable!

Day 3: Pistachio Paradise in Aegina

This day was a total vibe. We caught a ferry to the island of Aegina—a quick and easy trip (departures every 20–30 mins from Piraeus, book via Ferryhopper).

Aegina’s main town is gorgeous—boutique-lined streets, flower-filled alleys, and super walkable. But what it’s really known for? Pistachios. Yup, this is the only place in Greece where they’re grown (and they’re pinkish, sweeter, and crunchier!). The pistachio ice cream? Life-changing.

Surprisingly, Aegina is also a dessert-lover’s dream. Nearly every other place was a sweet shop or patisserie. Pistachio cheesecake, pistachio baklava… you get the idea.

Hand holding cup of green ice cream with a wafer, set against sunny beach scenery. Blue sky above.

We explored the town, lunched along the boardwalk, then grabbed a taxi (about €20) to Agia Marina Beach. Just 20 minutes from the port, this beach is gorgeous. Think turquoise water, chic loungers, and restaurant service to your sunbed. Bliss!

After a perfect swim and a little snooze, we returned to town for some more exploring—and a horse-drawn carriage ride. Because obviously, queens.

Dinner that night was at Skotadis—arguably the best seafood spot on the island. You must try it!

As we waited for the ferry home, we caught the most magnificent sunset. It cast everything in rose gold light, and we stood there, quiet for once, just… taking it in. One of those soul-hugging moments you’ll always remember.

Day 4: Snorkels, Sunsets & Sparkling Athens Nights

By our fourth day, you’d think we’d be slowing down… but no chance! We were up and at it early, bathing suits on, SPF layered, ready to dive into one of the most soul-soothing parts of our trip—our snorkelling adventure in Nea Makri.

Four women wearing sunglasses sit inside a car, smiling. A straw hat is visible. The street outside is lined with parked cars.

Just a 45-minute drive out of central Athens, this coastal bay feels like another world—less city, more serenity. We hopped aboard our boat with wide smiles and high energy, completely unaware of just how magical the morning was about to get.

As soon as we dipped beneath the water, it was like entering a whole new dimension. There’s something truly unreal about being surrounded by the peaceful stillness of the sea—just us, some technicolour fish gliding past, and the hum of nature all around. We snorkelled, floated, laughed (yes, even underwater), and soaked in the underwater world like curious mermaids who’d finally come home.

Post-snorkel, we basked under the warm Greek sun, drinks in hand, stretched out on the deck with that delicious post-ocean glow. There's a particular kind of happiness that only happens when you’re salty, sun-kissed, and surrounded by your girls. This was it.

After docking back on shore, we headed to one of the beachfront tavernas for lunch.

Grilled shrimp on a turquoise plate, next to a woven bag and sunglasses on a seaside table with blue checkered tablecloths in the background.

It’s almost become a theme now—fresh seafood + Greek coastline = flavour explosion. Everything from grilled octopus to juicy shrimp was chef’s kiss—our tastebuds were living their best life.

Golden Hour Goals: Mount Lycabettus

Back at our Airbnb, we rinsed off the sea and sand, slipped into our night-out glam, and set off for a finale night worthy of this epic adventure.

For our last evening, we wanted a view to remember—so we made our way to the top of Mount Lycabettus to the restaurant on top Orizontes - via the funicular (which, let’s be honest, felt slightly bougie and very on-brand for our “go big or go home” energy ). The ride up was quick, but what waited at the top… wow. Just, wow.

Dinner at Orizontes was everything—sophisticated, scenic, and sunset-soaked. We were lucky enough to snag terrace seating, and as the sun slowly melted over the city skyline, casting a soft glow over the Acropolis and rooftops of Athens, we just sat in the moment. Quiet. In awe. Full hearts.

A table with assorted dishes including salad and fries, a person serving food, cityscape in the background, and a sunset sky.

Monastiraki by Moonlight

We weren’t quite ready to call it a night, so we headed back down to Monastiraki Square, where the city was still buzzing with life. We strolled through the cobbled streets, dipped into shops, picked up last-minute souvenirs, and of course—made snack stops (because… when in Greece 😋).

From loukoumades to late-night gelato, we nibbled and giggled our way through the square under the twinkle of fairy lights and the echo of music from street performers.

It was the perfect way to end a perfect day—and honestly, one of the most heart-filling, soul-refreshing girls’ trips I’ve ever taken.

Farewell Feels: Breakfast at Queen Bee

The next morning, we made our final stop: breakfast at Queen Bee—a chic café known for its delicious eggs, artisan pastries, and hip, friendly vibe. We devoured our last meal in Greece between sips of coffee and spoonful’s of joy.

But more importantly, it was a moment of reflection. We talked about our favourite memories, unexpected laughs, and moments of vulnerability that brought us even closer. Travel like this opens your heart—it teaches you how to grow, to let go, and to really live.

💫 Final Thoughts & Favourite Finds

Soul-fuelled laughter, sea-kissed skin, and shared moments we’ll never forget. Greece gave us magic, and I hope this post gives you a sprinkle of that too.

A few final takeaways:

  • Greek people are incredibly friendly. We’ve never met more accommodating, joyful restaurant staff—seriously, every waiter was a gem.

  • Vegan? Gluten-free? Sugar-free? You’ll be pleasantly surprised by how many amazing options are available throughout Greece.

  • Wear colour, stay curious, and say yes to new adventures.
